Suddenly I realized we must take care of things just because they exist. Maura O'Halloran Source: Pure Heart, Enlightened Mind

I get daily quotes from gaia.com that are supposed to inspire me. For the most part they do, some though, I have to think twice about.  Is the reason we take care of things because they exist?

Perfection?

Can perfection be a goal?  Should perfection be a goal?  I was recently doing research for a critique I’m writing of O Magazine… of all magazines actually, and I happened upon the L’Oreal website.  On their sustainability page under the values tab, if I remember correctly, the first thing it says is “perfection is our goal.”

I realize this shouldn’t strike me as out of the ordinary, being on a cosmetics website, but it still did.  The idea of perfection, and perfection as a goal has always bothered me.  Strive to be happy, strive to be loved and to love, strive to be a person who has a life well lived, but don’t strive to be perfect.  It distracts from not only happiness and love, but from a person’s ability to truly live and experience life.

On the L’Oreal website Diane Keaton said it best herself, “I want my face to look the way I feel… authentic.”  … not perfect.

What's the best way to engage people in creating a positive future?

I think the best way to engage people in creating a positive future is to encourage them to have a positive present.  This means I would have to love and accept who I am, right now.  In doing this there would be no need for me to judge others based on my own insecurities.  Loving myself, without those insecurities, means I would be able to turn my focus from bettering myself in any sort of material, superficial sense; to bettering the lives of those around me.  So let’s get out there and love ourself so we can love ourselves!

What sort of people are you communicating with?

“They’re imaginary, green, and from New Jersey.” – Clinton   The perfect answer.  The sort of people I communicate with are sometimes real, sometimes not, and sometimes foreign.  Regardless of what they are sometimes, I have come to the conclusion that our conversations are forever imaginary.  And aren’t those the best conversations anyway?  Always private, always intimate, always with infinite potential to go anywhere and discuss anything with no one being offended or hurt.  The best part of the people I’ve been communicating with?  They encourage me to come out on top, so to speak.  I win every debate, make witty jokes, and know everything there is to know about world affairs.  In short, I’m the smartest person in the conversation.  These people defiantly help to build my confidence.  They think I’m amazing… they know I’m amazing.  They love me.  So, what sort of people have you been communicating with, and how do they make you feel about yourself?

Can a person have too many options?

I reached a point a few months ago where I felt suffocated by the one option I seemed to have.  So I changed that, and here I am—with a billion options in front of a very indecisive me.  I have absolutely no idea what I want, where I want to go, when I want to go there, who I want in my life, or for that matter… who I want to be.
